Self-care: Find value in your existence
The world, your friends, and possessions cannot help you believe that you are worthy. Understanding in your abilities and purpose comes from a deeper place that only you can discover through faith. Faith is more than words or an idea. It is a heart posture. Since faith is a posture of your inner man, it requires nurturing, intentionality and exercise.
Why?
The moment you drop your guard and neglect the necessary training/conditioning to maintain your posture, doubt, worry, fear, unbelief, etc., will creep its way into your mind. Now, the moment this occurs, you will find yourself out of balance and needing emergency attention.
Faith is more than words or an idea. It is a heart posture.
There are moments in our life where emergency attention is uncontrollable; however, in other cases, it is avoidable if we spent time addressing the early signs and symptoms. For example, the excessive drinking that causes you to blackout a few times a week did not miraculously occur a few weeks ago - the beginning stages of excessive drinking may have started after you experienced let down, divorce, or a tragedy of some sort. Or if that is too extreme, let’s look at the need to be perfect in every aspect of life. This desire to have the ideal physique, kids, job, house, car, performance, and social media page, may have deeper roots than you are willing to admit. Maybe the attention you desired from someone you loved did not appear until you did something worth validating in their eyes, if at all. If this is the case, the exigency to receive validation by your actions, versus being accepted for your character, might be fueling this “perfection” type of behavior. However, thankfully enough, there’s still light at the end of the tunnel. It is never too late to start your healing process, and it’s never too late to shift your unbelief.
Taking time early on to heal from past hurts is truly ideal, but you and I both know that this isn’t always our reality. Nevertheless, the moment your lightbulb comes on, do not ignore it. Make an effort to slow down, regroup and regain your balance.
It is never too late to start your healing process, and it’s never too late to shift your unbelief.
Your mind, emotions, and spiritual well-being are just as important, if not more than, your physical health. Make time to take time to nurture your holistic health. You have one life to live, and while trials are inevitable, your ability to stand stronger after each test is possible. It all starts with taking the first step to finding value within your existence.
