Choose what's best for your evolution
We’re in a time where we can access so much information within a few clicks, scrolls, and seconds. Yet, while the advancement of technology allows us the opportunity to gain more knowledge, connect with loved ones from across the globe, and virtually experience cultures our ancestors dreamed about, the little minion that stays glued to our hands or screens that attract our eyes can create portals that lead to our own demise if we’re not careful.
You see, people can live one way and portray their best selves on social media, use filters to hide the blemishes, or even tap on portrait mode to create a more dynamic moment. However, while we know these brief captures of time don’t always portray the larger picture to what one’s experiencing, subconsciously — or even consciously — some find themselves using this information as ammunition to pick themselves apart. Total disclaimer: if you find yourself agreeing to this, know that you’re not alone. I’ve fallen into the online woes of comparing my progress or lack thereof to what looks like someone else’s exponential growth.

It’s interesting how we can hype ourselves up when we’re accomplishing a goal in one moment. Still, the split-second we see a highlight of some we like, dislike, admire, or observe, our thinking about our step forward quickly shifts.
So while I know the little minion and his partner screens aren’t always the messengers of bad news, we must pay attention to how we allow them to function. As the gatekeeper to our minds, hearts, spirit, and attitude, we have a responsibility to guard ourselves in a manner that promotes continual growth. You, beloved, are filled with greatness that deserves to be nurtured, not picked apart because it doesn’t fit the description someone else wrote for themself. Spend time cultivating your gifts, your purpose, and your calling. Why? Your destiny is counting on you!
Spend time assessing your thought life, what you feed yourself mentally/spiritually each day, and how you speak to yourself along the journey. Be honest with yourself during this assessment, but don’t stop there. Identify your opportunities for growth in these areas, create a game plan, and make a choice to CHOOSE WHAT’S BEST FOR YOUR EVOLUTION.
Your destiny is counting on you!
The more time we spend comparing our lives to others or looking for ways to mimic the life someone else built for themself, the less time we have to embrace the masterpiece we face every time we look in the mirror. Yes, you have scars. Yes, you have a past. And yes, you aren’t perfect. But remember this, greatness still resides in something overlooked. What others may mark as trash, another considers it a treasure — it’s just a matter of perspective. You got it, my dear friend. Trust me. You reading this is not by coincidence.
So when you feel discouraged, here’s a statement the old folks I know use to say that can give you a boost of encouragement along the way - “you might not we be where you want to be, but thank goodness you’re not where you use to be!”
